‘Livin’ on the Fringes’ – Our Led Zeppelin Experience
Hippo got the call… Our art work had been approved for T-shirts for the “Day on the Green,” or as we called it D.O.G. day, to be held at the Oakland Coliseum and produced by Bill Graham Presents.
They were amazing events attended by over 55,000 fans who came to see world famous rock groups play on that stage. Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana, Journey, The Who, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, and of course the subjects of our Led Zeppelin experience, were but a few of the great bands who held court at this iconic venue.
The call for T-shirts also came with a nice “Thank You.” We now had enough backstage passes for all the silk-screeners, and their friends! Livin’ on the fringes.
With the shirts delivered and tickets in hand, we jumped into Ken’s bright red 40-foot RV and off to the show we went!!!
Back stage at the amazing Led Zeppelin concert, the band took a break. Peter Barsoti was in charge of this venue. He asked Barry and I if we wanted to see the band’s guitars.
“Of course”, we said. We were so excited! As we moved around the stage we were mesmerized by the instruments.
In fact, we were so engrossed on the stage we didn’t realize we were in plain view of the huge crowd waiting for the band to reappear. Suddenly the crowd of 55,000 people sent out a roaring cheer, thinking we were the band!
What a thrill, and now I can relate to why Mick is still touring.
Rock on, that’s the a day in the life of a silk-screener, livin’ on the fringes.
